Sustainability

The country looks after us. We try to look after it.

A percentage of every Nigel Archer safari flows to the communities and conservation partners we have worked with for years. The rest is a set of habits: how we power our camps, whom we employ, where we buy food, and what we leave behind.

"We have only a small share of what is wild. We have a responsibility to make sure it remains wild, and that the people who live in it — who have always lived in it — are the ones deciding its future."

— Nigel Archer

Conservation

Where the safari fee goes.

Annual land lease, park tickets and bed-night fees

The land lease at Seringet is an agreement with the Maasai community, and the park tickets and bed-night fees built into every stay go directly to the Reserve's wildlife protection.

Anti-poaching partners

We support local partners in the Mara — the Mara Elephant Project, the Mara Predator Hub and the Mara Raptor Project — by raising guest awareness through talks, visits and literature. We also contribute to rhino protection in the Reserve with donations of fuel and other resources the team are in need of.

Schools we're involved with

As donors of one of the first schools on the Maasai Mara border, Nigel Archer Safaris is proud to still be a strong supporter — and to help fund the schooling of young Maasai women. Seringet also offers on-site training and internships to students from local colleges.

Women's conservancies

We work with two women-led conservancies in the Samburu landscape — Sarara and Reteti — whose beadwork is the only souvenir you will find in our mess tent.

How the camps run

Solar, canvas, almost nothing in a bin.

100% solar power

Both Seringet and the Mobile Camp run entirely on solar — lighting, charging, fridges. No generators.

No single-use plastic

Aluminium water bottles at turn-down, glass at dinner. We buy laundry and soap in bulk from a Nairobi supplier that refills our dispensers.

Local food first

Ingredients from the farms of Laikipia and the Rift wherever possible, with a short list of staples we bring from Nairobi.

Employment at home

Every member of our camp team is East African, and the majority are from communities within a day's travel of the camp.

We'll happily share exactly where your safari's conservation contribution will go, and to whom.
